Another Major Achievement!

PLC is widely being used in the industry for many applications. However, microprocessor based PLC cannot cope with current demanding processing speed. Hence, PLC on FPGA was proposed. A Ladder Rung Processor (LRP) was designed to process Ladder Logic Diagram (LLD) rungs in parallel. LRP is a new architecture processor and was successfully patented.

Current practice to use LLD to develop PLC applications is not sufficient as PLC designs getting bigger, more complex and more features. Thus, Petri Nets was proposed to complement LLD development. In order to ensure existing LLD users are not being left out, a compiler was developed to automatically convert an LLD model to its equivalent PN model. While PN model conversion to LLD model was developed to ensure existing PLC tools and hardware can still be used.

In addition to the above achievement, the research was also succesfully to develop analysis tools on PN. Using this tool, analysis and improvement which normally being done on LLD can be done more efficient in PN model. Since PN model is at higher levell than LLD, it is closer to user specification and hence any design and improvement work can be done more accurate and faster.
